bearded fireworm
Near to the shore within 3m depth off Punta Barone. DO NOT TOUCH! Their bristles contain a neurotoxin which causes a powerful burning sensation on the skin.
Location:
Found in roughly 3m of water a short snorkel from the shore near Punta Barone, Santa marina, Salina.
Notes:
A sublittoral observation of ‘feeding’ behaviour by Hermodice carunculata (bearded fireworm) on Pelagia noctiluca (mauve stinger), in the Eolian Islands, southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Mediterranean, August 2019.
